North Liberty Church of the Brethren

The search committee has started the process of finding a new pastor for our church. In the coming weeks/months we will be meeting as needed to complete the necessary steps to fulfill our mission. We may be asking certain persons and/or the entire congregation for their input on areas related to our church. This could be through small group meetings, through paper surveys, or through informal conversations with individuals. If we do ask for your input, we hope that you will help us.

We also would like everyone to respect the fact that while we are searching for a pastor, we have obligations of confidentiality to follow. Any information that can be shared with the congregation during this search will be shared. If you ask a question and we are not allowed to answer it, please understand why.

We would again like to ask for your prayers and support as we move along with our search for a new pastor.

Thank you all for your cooperation

Bernie Macias-chair, Sandy Holderread, Keith Betz, Amy Shoue, Pat Clevenger, Katie Harness, and Ben Bolen

Do you knit or crochet? Timbercrest is in need of knitted or crocheted baby blankets, caps, sweaters, and booties of any size and color (except red). They would like these items to sell in the gift shop. Residents can purchase them as gifts.

The 2nd Mile Offering for February is the Church World Service (CWS) Blankets+ Program. Blankets+ provides funds to help people in need around the world, including the U.S. For over 60 years, Church World Service has worked in partnership with local communities to identify their needs and access the resources they need to build the foundation for a more viable future. Resources may include blankets, tents, food, and other emergency supplies in the wake of a disaster; tools and seeds for refugees returning home to replant their fields; wells for families living in drought prone areas to provide clean, safe water to drink and to irrigate crops and gardens; literacy training and microcredit for women struggling to realize their potential. You’re the plus in Blankets+. Monetary gifts will be used where needed most.

On February 5th, immediately following Sunday school, there will be a Blankets+ Sunday meal.  Women's fellowship will be providing the broth for our stone soup.  You can provide the vegetables and potatoes. Please also bring a salad or dessert to share.  After the meal, the children will be making valentines to be delivered to members of the community and a craft. Please join us if you are able.

CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN 2012 PRAYER CALENDAR

February 5

Take a moment to flip through your congregation's directory. Count how many people serve in the life and worship of your community. Pray for each one in the course of this week, asking for the wisdom and strength of the Holy Spirit to be with them in their service.

February 12

This week inevitably stirs conversations about love. As you are making preparations for Valentines Day take a moment to reflect on all the people who have lovingly nurtured you. Consider how you might share the story of one of these loved ones with a friend. As you remember these persons, ask God to reveal someone who is in need of Christ's steadfast love.

February 19

Some of us will consider giving up something in this season of Lenten preparation. The practice is not so much about self sacrifice, but about fasting and reframing our attention to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Pray this week that your journey in Lent will reveal the places where you have turned your attention from God.

February 26

Adding another day each year brings with it a number of traditions. Take a minute to go through your closets and count how many extras you have- extra coats, extra shoes, or even extra food. How might you share your abundance with those around you? Pray that as you share these many gifts with others that the love of Christ might embrace and comfort them.
