HIGHLIGHTS OF THE AUGUST CHURCH BOARD MEETING * The board approved of Pastor Carol taking one day a month for solitude – to focus on being alone with God.
* Stewards – The air conditioning condenser will be replaced. The tree by the north driveway is dying and will be removed.
* Witness – 40 back packs and school supplies were donated to the NLES.One parent stopped in the church to say “thank you”. We will be sponsoring a family at Christmas. October is Hope Ministries food can drive.
* At the November 07 Council Meeting, council voted to give $3,000 to the District for the Nappanee tornado disaster. We received a letter fromthe District stating that the money was not needed. The board voted to have the money returned to the Ministries Fund. It can be used in the future for another need.
District News The Camp Mack Festival is well on the way! October 4, 9 am – 5 pm camp will be full of crafts, games food fun and fellowship. Your help is essential by organizing a booth! Foods, crafts, garden harvest, or maybe share a booth with another congregation! Contact camp to reserve your booth, 574-658-4831. Proceeds from the festival will go to camper scholarships and for new floors in Becker Lodge. Northern Indiana Women’s Camp and Retreat at Camp Mack is scheduled for Friday, September 26 and Saturday, September 27. “Building Bridges” is the theme this year-God comes in when we LET Him in. Grace Mishler will be the guest speaker for Friday night along with a camp fire and then a fun game of Dirty Bingo. Nancy Dietz, former pastor’s wife from Baugo COB, along with special guest Karen Eis as Anna Mow are scheduled to speak Saturday. See the flyer on the bulletin board for more information. If you’ve never attended, it is a neat experience- very restful and enjoyable but informative. You sleep in Becker so you’re not really roughing it. The 2nd Mile Offering for September is Rachel’s Home. Rachel's Home is a nonprofit Christian maternity home located in Plymouth that was established to provide loving support to pregnant teens and young women. Residents at Rachel's Home learn and practice personal accountability. Rachel's Home helps residents learn more about God's love, and other important topics such as, budgeting, nutrition, parenting skills, adoption, abstinence, and many other useful things. Rachel's Home is run entirely on donations from businesses and private individuals. There is no charge for the residents to stay at the home, but residents must go through an interview process to be accepted.
THANK YOU- North Liberty Elementary School deeply thanks the church for donating all of the backpacks and school supplies that helped many needy children get their school year off to a good start. The whole thank you letter is posted on the bulletin board in the narthex. CROP WALK: This year’s CROP WALK will take place on Sunday, September 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Howard Park. Please see Julie Brinkhoff for pledge sheets. If you are sponsoring a walker, please make all checks payable to Church World Service/CROP. CWS, CWS/CROP, CROP, and CROP Walk are also acceptable.
Workshop on Prayer in October– “Pickin’ Up Prayers” Be sure to join us Saturday, October 25, 2008 for a one day workshop with Valerie Beeson-Lyles on prayer walking. Valerie is a friend of Pastor Carol and has a wonderful witness. Valerie grew up in the Nettle Creek Church of the Brethren, Hagerstown, IN but now lives in Atlanta, GA. Look for more information coming and mark your calendars to attend. Valerie Beeson-Lyles, ASID is owner of an interior design firm in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to her life as owner/operator of her business, Valerie is wife to Richard and mother to daughters Kaitlyn (18) and Sarah (13). She leads Bible Studies, teaches Sunday School in her church and speaks at various retreats and conferences. Val credits her active involvement in Campus Crusade for Christ-while a student at Purdue University-as a pivotal point in her life; especially in regards to her active, passionate pursuit of passing on her faith through leading others to study the Bible and now her latest experience with prayer walking. She has written numerous articles and is in the process of having her first book published, Picking Up Prayers-a new kind of prayerwalking.
